Review

Café de Toog, housed in a charismatic building constructed in 1890, and decorated with original works by Amsterdam's uncompromisingly rock'n'roll artist and accomplished musician Herman Brood, plays host to a warm and lively social scene. The food is reasonably priced, and well prepared. Meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes are available on the main menu, as well as the "dishes of the day". Succulent steak, and some rather tasty apple pie with cinnamon ice cream. The latter usually comes with whipped cream as well although I couldn't quite manage that on top of everything else. The bar is well stocked with some fine bottled and draught beers, well kept, and served at the perfect temperature. Wonderful friendly atmosphere, and a great example of a real Amsterdam bar.
